Survivor Lit is thrilled to announce a new managing editor—ahem, editrix at the helm. Julia Park Tracey has some 40 years in newspaper and magazine publishing under her belt, including founding a weekly award-winning newspaper in Alameda, California, and editing stints at The Monthly, Bay Area Music Scene, Alameda and Oakland magazines, and publishing her own print literary magazine, Red Hills Review, in the early 2000s. Julia has repeatedly won best feature, blog, opinion or review with several press organizations, including California Newspaper Publishers’ Assn. and the San Francisco Press Club.

Also an accomplished poet, Julia was named Poet Laureate in the city of Alameda for a three-year term in 2014-17. She has a degree in journalism from San Francisco State University and a master’s in Early 20th Century British Literature from the California State University, East Bay. She has been a San Francisco Foundation grant recipient and has participated in the Community of Writers (Olympic Valley), Napa Valley Writers’ Conference, and LitCamp, among others.

Her essays and features have appeared in Huffington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Salon, Narratively, Redbook, Thrillist, Scary Mommy, and Yahoo News. Her poetry has appeared in Americas Review, Atticus Review, Tiferet, Sledgehammer, Yellow Chair, Sugared Water, Daphne, Soul Lit, and many more. Julia is the author of six books, including Amaryllis: Collected Poems and two books of women’s history, I’ve Got Some Loving to Do (1925-26) and Reaching for the Moon (1927-29).

Julia is also a sexual assault survivor and brings that sensitivity and compassion, along with her writing and editing skills, to the contents of Survivor Lit. She is the mother of five and lives with her family in the low Sierras, California, in a renovated Victorian.
