About Survivor Lit

Our Mission

Welcome to Survivor Lit, a nonprofit online international platform dedicated to amplifying the voices of sexual assault survivors. Survivor Lit is a community where the stories of sexual assault survivors are shared and received with compassion, respect and courage. Our mission is to provide a safe and loving environment where victims of rape, molestation and incest can explore what happened to them, the aftermath of assault, the society that allows sexual assault to continue to happen, the healing process, self-care, education and psychology of trauma. But the way that we tell our stories is an art form, and that is what has brought our online literary magazine into existence—the need to share our stories in a well-crafted form. Our magazine features essays, poetry, articles, book reviews, book excerpts, author interviews and artwork by  sexual assault survivors. Our goal is to raise funds to be able to soon launch a podcast and host workshops and retreats with varying levels of instruction for survivors writing their stories of surviving sexual assault. It is our great hope to take our program into various communities, including prisons and school campuses.

"The first time I was sexually assaulted, I was 12. The last time, I was 22. During the decade of repeated rapes by multiple predators, I never knew anyone with a story like mine. It wasn't until I was in my late thirties that I encountered creative writing by sexual assault survivors. But during all this time, I never found a community where stories of sexual assault was the only focus. And yet, every 73 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted, according to RAINN. We needed a space to share with one another, to find solidarity and feel less alone, to find new ways of healing, to light the way for others. So I created the space I needed in the world. Welcome. You are safe here. Your stories matter, and we want to hear them." – Kirsten Ott Palladino, Founder
